Giovanni Gerbi, born in Ast in 1885, nicknamed the Red Devil. A sporting devil, a cyclist who always wanted to win at all costs and who earned that nickname thanks to his typical outfit: a red shirt that reflected his attitude ready for the challenge, of those who never give up. The legend tells that during a race he managed to scare a country priest who, seeing that cyclist in red jersey throwing havoc breaking into a bicycle procession, exclaimed: \u2018He is the Devil!\u201d. Hence the nickname Red Devil.
